After These Messages: Ziploc and Pizza Hut with Britt Mitchell

Britt Mitchell of The Shestory Show (an improv show about women in history) is back! And this time we’re talking about a lovable figure we all remember from our childhoods, Dom DeLuise! And also every dog’s favorite food to bring to their family in lieu of child support payments: pizza!

Lovely Legs Ziploc Commercial

It’s Tomorrow Now Ziploc Commercial

1988 Rhyming Couplets Ziploc Commercial

We were especially pleased to learn that Dom DeLuise just genuinely seemed to be a nice guy who everyone liked.

Next we moved on to a specific $4 pizza ad campaign with an attractively sassy and competent Pizza Hut staffer.

4 bucks Taj Mahal

4 bucks Ferrari

We couldn’t find the specific one with a date request when we sat down to watch at first, but our later discussion led us to it, and we paused mid-conversation to watch these next two.

4 bucks Not For A Million Bucks is the specific one we remembered.

4 bucks Not For A Zillion Bucks is another one with even higher rejection values!

We wondered who this person was, and learned that she’s Robyn Buck, an actor and voiceover artist who is still working, and has an instagram where she sometimes posts pictures of her cute dog!

We moved from pizza to conning people, gambling, and misheard song lyrics, including the gem of “I wear goggles when you are not near” for Macy Gray’s “I Try” (it’s actually “my world crumbles” and not anything about goggles, but it will always be about goggles in our hearts).

Next we watched a commercial for one of Britt’s favorite places to go as a kid growing up in Saugus, MA: Water Country! This water park is a short jaunt away in Portsmouth, NH, and Britt knows ALLLLLLL the lyrics to the theme song.

We talked about the ice cream of the future, and the shocking truth that astronauts don’t actually get astronaut ice cream in space. We wondered if they actually got Tang. Sounds like the answer is yes, and also Buzz Aldrin said it sucked!

One of Britt’s other strong childhood memories was of Blow Pops, so we watched this Blow Pop metacommercial.

We sympathized with Stephanie, the child director. What a hard job!

We ended by tracking down a couple of commercials staring Judith Barsi, the voice of Anne Marie in All Dogs Go to Heaven. There are many tribute videos and fan documentaries about her tragedy, but we wanted to focus on celebrating her work.

Jalapeño and Cheddar Lays commercial

She’s WAAAAAAYYYYY better at saying jalapeño than her fake dad is! Which just goes to show that all men are SUPER DUMB, right???

The weird gender stuff just keeps coming. She’s playing a much more mature role as a new parent (to a doll) in this JIF peanut butter commercial.

But weird gender role messaging aside, we talked about how genuinely excellent at acting Judith Barsi was.

Finally, to bring the mood back up a bit, Britt recommended Two Trenchcoats in a Kid, which is really funny!
